Twitch has announced the US and European host cities for its upcoming events. This year’s TwitchCon EU will take place in Paris on July 8th and 9th, while TwitchCon US will be in Las Vegas in October. After numerous controversies surrounding health policies at last year’s event, it remains to be seen what measures will be implemented for these new locations.
Last year, Twitch returned to live events with conventions in San Diego and Amsterdam after a long hiatus due to the pandemic. However, the convention caused controversy when they refused to require masks at either event, leading to a massive social media backlash that forced them to reverse their decision and mandate masks only at their San Diego location. The health policies have been improved since then, but many are still unsure if they are enough, given the crowded nature of such an event.
Additionally, there was another incident that made headlines during last year's convention - a streamer broke her back after falling off a mechanical bull into the infamous foam pit at TwitchCon San Diego! It is unclear what kind of safety precautions will be put into place this time, considering the change of venue from California to Nevada or France respectively.
The move from California could also signify further changes for future events hosted by twitch, depending on how successful their new venues prove themselves in 2023. In either case, fans and participants alike can look forward to yet another exciting experience filled with gaming activities galore!
Despite some previous mishaps, it looks like this move could mark an exciting new chapter for Twitch as they venture out into different cities across Europe and America for their annual conventions! We'll have to wait until July 8th or October to see how things pan out when these two major events come around later this year!
