If you are an active Instagram user, you have probably already seen people complaining about the upcoming changes related to this social media platform. Developers are serious about making videos a top priority on the platform, which means that still, images won’t get as much attention. The outburst of negative reactions caused Instagram to slow down this process for now, but this change seems inevitable.

According to the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, the update of the social media platform is currently in its testing phase, and a limited number of users have access to it. Because of the different campaigns against Instagram turning too much into TikTok, Instagram decided not to introduce some features just yet.

Some of the users that complained about the upcoming changes include Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian. Also, a petition to ‘make Instagram Instagram again’ has got more than 200,000 signatures on change.org this week.

Mosseri took it to Twitter to demonstrate some of the changes that Instagram is currently working on. The first one is that videos are planned to be displayed full-screen, just like they are on TikTok. And users will be getting recommendations of posts from strangers. According to Mosseri, the Instagram team is happy that they took this risk, but he also mentioned their ‘need to take a big step back and regroup.’

Mosseri mentioned that it’s not just Instagram that leans more into videos, but it’s obvious that users themselves share more video content on the platform these days. As Instagram is in direct competition with TikTok, it’s obvious that the platform will try to do everything in its power to win more users.
