Competition among mobile games is vicious with app developers continuously searching for the most profitable monetization methods to increase their revenue. But what method is the best?

According to a new report published by GameRefinery, Battle Passes, progressive in-app purchases (IAP), IAP offers, and Gachas are the best monetization tools.

For instance, Battle Passes are featured in about 60% of the top 20% grossing games. And this percentage has been steadily growing over the past 3 years.

Battle Passes work extremely well because they progressively engage the users. After you make the initial purchase, you receive the rewards while you play and reach milestones. This allows the players to receive great value without paying too much, while those people who wish to quickly advance the progress of their Battle Pass can pay extra. As a result, Battle Pass became the core element of many successful F2P titles.

Gachas are also extremely profitable, with 75% of the top 20% grossing games having this monetization option. This can be attributed to the fact that Gachas are essentially gambling. Gachas (loot boxes) do not have a set value, allowing some players to get amazing rewards without having to spend a lot of money, while others are not so lucky. As a result, loot boxes have been banned in many countries around the world to prevent people from spending absurd amounts of money.
Finally, limited-time in-app purchases are used by nearly all top 20% grossing games.

Which monetization option do you prefer? Have you ever spent more than you can afford on loot boxes? Tell us about it in the comments down below.
